Prime Minister Harper to meet with North American counterparts

9 March 2006
Ottawa, Ontario

Prime Minister Stephen Harper today announced that he will meet with U.S. President George W. Bush and Mexican President Vicente Fox in Cancun, Mexico on March 30 and 31, 2006.

"I look forward to meeting with President Bush and President Fox.  This will provide an opportunity for us to discuss issues relating to our shared interests, geography, and economies,” said Prime Minister Stephen Harper.

“It is important that we work together on issues that are relevant to Canadians, such as security and prosperity.  I am pleased to have this early occasion to address these issues.”

The trip will include trilateral meetings, during which the Security and Prosperity Partnership (SPP) will be discussed. The SPP, launched in March 2005, is a trilateral agenda of collaboration to increase security, prosperity and quality of life in North America.

Foreign Affairs Minister Peter MacKay will accompany the Prime Minister on this visit.
