Prime Minister Stephen Harper today announced that he will participate in the 2011 Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM) in Perth, Australia, from October 28 to 30.
“Canada is an active member and supporter of the Commonwealth and values the work it accomplishes in promoting democracy, good governance and human rights,” said the Prime Minister. “The Perth meeting will provide members with an opportunity to modernize the Commonwealth to ensure it is as effective as possible in a world of profound challenges.”
Under the theme “Building National Resilience, Building Global Resilience,” Commonwealth leaders will address global challenges such as the promotion of strong, sustainable and balanced economic growth and recovery from the global financial crisis.
Leaders will also discuss global political developments and take stock of issues of interest that will contribute to building a more secure and safe world.
