PM announces the establishment of the Priorities and Planning Sub-Committee on Government Administration

Ottawa, Ontario
13 September 2012

Prime Minister Stephen Harper today announced the creation of the Priorities and Planning Sub-Committee on Government Administration.  Further to commitments made in Economic Action Plan 2012 to improve services to Canadians, realize operational efficiencies and increase internal productivity, this Sub-Committee has been mandated to consider proposals on whole-of-government opportunities for improved efficiency and effectiveness.

“The Sub-Committee will work to determine if there are any additional, common sense improvements to be made in government,” said Prime Minister Harper. “This is an example of our Government’s commitment to spending Canadian taxpayers’ money responsibly by looking for potentially unnecessary expenses.”

The Honourable Tony Clement, President of the Treasury Board and Minister for the Federal Economic Development Initiative for Northern Ontario, has been appointed Chair of the Sub-Committee and the Honourable Ted Menzies, Minister of State (Finance), will be Vice-Chair. Members include: the Honourable Lisa Raitt, the Honourable Joe Oliver, the Honourable Maxime Bernier, the Honourable Lynne Yelich and the Honourable Rob Moore. In addition, two members, the Honourable Ron Cannan and the Honourable Mike Lake, have been sworn in as Privy Councillors.  In addition, the Prime Minister announced that the Honourable Laurie Hawn will attend meetings of the Treasury Board as an alternate as required.
