The Prime Minister of Canada, Justin Trudeau and the President of Mexico, Enrique Peña Nieto spoke by phone on Monday, January 30, 2017.
President Peña Nieto expressed condolences, on behalf of the people of Mexico, for the tragic events at the Centre culturel islamique de Québec, and indicated that the people of Mexico stood in solidarity with the people of Canada. The Prime Minister and the President reaffirmed that religious tolerance, diversity and pluralism are fundamental values shared by both Mexico and Canada.
The Prime Minister and the President also discussed opportunities to strengthen trade, prosperity, job creation and competitiveness in North America, one of the most successful economic regions in the world. The two leaders looked forward to continuing their regular discussions in this regard.
