Prime Minister Justin Trudeau met today with Nobel Peace Laureate Leymah Gbowee in Ottawa.

The Prime Minister and Ms. Gbowee discussed the role of women and girls in conflict prevention and building sustainable peace and development. The Prime Minister reaffirmed Canada’s commitment to gender equality, the empowerment of women and girls and the need to further strengthen partnerships with grassroots, feminist and women’s rights organizations.

Ms. Gbowee was accompanied by Yanar Mohammed, co-founder and President of the Organization of Women’s Freedom in Iraq, and Liz Bernstein, founding Executive Director of the Nobel Women’s Initiative.
