Prime Minister Justin Trudeau met today with Mexican President Enrique Peña Nieto to discuss the strong relationship between Canada and Mexico.

The Prime Minister and President discussed a range of issues of mutual concern, including human rights and the renegotiation of North American Free Trade Agreement with a view to benefitting all our citizens. The two leaders also expressed appreciation for the support Canadians and Mexicans provided to each other following recent earthquakes in Mexico and the wildfires in Canada.

In 2016, bilateral Canada-Mexico trade in goods was valued at $40.8 billion. Canada is one of Mexico’s largest sources of foreign direct investment and Mexico is the second-largest tourist destination for Canadians.
