Mr. Patrick Borbey has been Associate Deputy Minister of Canadian Heritage since July 2014. Among his executive responsibilities, he has overseen the departmental mandate for Sport Canada, and has worked closely with the National Capital Commission and the six National Museums. As President of the Canadian Northern Economic Development Agency between 2011 and 2014, he led federal government economic, labour force and community development contributions in Canada’s North.
Between 2001 and 2011, Mr. Borbey served in positions at the assistant deputy minister level in Health Canada, the Privy Council Office, and at the former department of Aboriginal Affairs and Northern Development Canada, including in human resources and corporate services. Mr. Borbey previously held director general level responsibilities for Communications at Transport Canada; International Cultural Relations at Foreign Affairs and International Trade Canada; Strategy and Plans at Parks Canada; and Finance at both the former Department of Communications and the Department of Canadian Heritage.
Originally from Elliot Lake in Northern Ontario, Mr. Borbey holds a Bachelor of Social Sciences (concentration in Political Science) and a Master of Business Administration, both from the University of Ottawa.
