Dennis King is a dedicated public servant, journalist, communications specialist, author, and lifelong Islander.
Elected as Leader of the Progressive Conservative Party of Prince Edward Island in 2019, he became the 33rd Premier of the province just two months later.
As Premier, Mr. King helped drive progress on key priorities such as health care, education, economic development, environmental sustainability, and affordability. He also led the province through significant challenges, including natural disasters and the COVID‑19 pandemic. In addition to his duties as Premier, Mr. King held various ministerial portfolios, including Intergovernmental Affairs, Indigenous Relations, and Acadian and Francophone Affairs.
A journalist by training, Mr. King worked as a reporter and editor for local newspapers such as Eastern Graphic, The Island Farmer, and Atlantic Fish Farming. He also spent a year as a news reporter for CFCY Radio and later became a regular contributor to a CBC Radio political panel.
In 1996, Mr. King joined the public service as a communications specialist with the provincial government, serving as Director of Communications for then-Premier Pat Binns. He has also served as Director of Communications and Business Development with the Mi’kmaq Confederacy of Prince Edward Island and Executive Director of the PEI Seafood Processors Association. Building on his extensive experience, he founded King Strategy Group, a marketing and public relations consulting firm, in 2012.
An accomplished storyteller and author, Mr. King has self-published two books of humorous short stories, The Day They Shot Reveen: And Other Stories from Small Town PEI and The Legend of Bubby Stevens: More Stories from a PEI Small Town.
Mr. King grew up in Georgetown and currently resides in Brookfield with his wife, Jana. They are the proud parents of Jacob, Camdyn, and Callum.
