Dominic Barton is the Chair of Rio Tinto and LeapFrog Investments and has extensive experience in global business, investment, and public service. He spent more than 30 years at McKinsey & Company, including nine years as Global Managing Partner and six years as Asia Chairman, advising organisations and leaders across a range of industries and international markets. From 2019 to 2021, Mr. Barton served as Canada’s Ambassador to China.

Throughout his career, Mr. Barton has held a number of corporate and public sector leadership roles. He previously served as Chair of Teck Resources and as a director of Singtel Group and Investor AB. He also chaired Canada’s Advisory Council on Economic Growth and the International Advisory Committee to the President of South Korea on National Future and Vision.

Mr. Barton is a co-founder of Focusing Capital on the Long Term (FCLTGlobal), an organisation focused on promoting long-term value creation. He has co-authored four books and authored more than 80 articles on business leadership and the role of business in society.

Mr. Barton has received numerous honours for his contributions to business and public service, including the INSEAD Business Leader for the World Award, the Korean Order of Civil Merit (Peony Medal), the Singaporean Public Service Star, the Foreign Policy Association Corporate Social Responsibility Award, and Canada’s Public Policy Forum Testimonial Award.

Mr. Barton graduated from the University of British Columbia with a Bachelor of Arts in Economics (Honours) and holds a Master of Philosophy in Economics from Oxford University, where he studied as a Rhodes Scholar.
