Prime Minister Justin Trudeau called Prime Minister Theresa May of the United Kingdom and Northern Ireland today to offer his congratulations on her appointment.

The two leaders reaffirmed the rich and diverse bilateral relationship that exists between Canada and the United Kingdom, which is built and maintained through a deep shared history, strong people-to-people ties, and common values. They also discussed the decision of UK citizens to leave the European Union.

Prime Minister Trudeau emphasized that he looked forward to working closely with Prime Minister May to ensure the ongoing  prosperity for citizens of both countries.
