Prime Minister Trudeau met today with the President of Panama, Juan Carlos Varela, on the margins of the 72nd Session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York.

The two leaders reaffirmed the positive and growing bilateral relationship between Canada and Panama. The leaders agreed to deepen cooperation between their countries, notably in the areas of trade and investment, gender equality, education, and climate change.

Prime Minister Trudeau and President Varela also discussed the crisis in Venezuela and reiterated their call on the Venezuelan Government to restore the constitutional order and democracy. The leaders agreed to continue working with hemispheric partners to find a solution to the crisis.
