Today, on the occasion of visiting Canadian troops stationed in Gao with the United Nations Multidimensional Integrated Stabilization Mission in Mali (MINUSMA), Prime Minister Trudeau met with Prime Minister Maïga of Mali.
The two leaders welcomed the longstanding Canada-Mali bilateral relationship, which in 2019 will have spanned 50 years. Canada’s partnership with Mali remains focused on addressing the needs of the Malian people with important investments in development and humanitarian assistance.
The Prime Ministers considered ways to advance mutual commercial interests, as well as progress towards peace in Mali, and noted the importance of continued efforts to reinforce security, human rights, and governance throughout the country. The two leaders also agreed on the benefits of increasing women’s participation in politics.
