Today Prime Minister Justin Trudeau met with President Emmanuel Macron of France. 

The Prime Minister and the President discussed priorities for the upcoming G7 Summit in Biarritz on August 24-26, including advancing progress on the outcomes from Canada’s 2018 G7 Summit in Charlevoix, particularly with respect to gender equality, women’s economic empowerment, growth that benefits everyone, and protecting oceans from plastic pollution.

The two leaders exchanged views on a range of global issues of mutual concern.  On the situation in Venezuela, the Prime Minister and the President agreed on the urgent need to restore democracy through free and fair elections.  They also discussed relations with China.

The two leaders also discussed the responsible development and opportunities for job creation related to artificial intelligence (AI), in which Canada and France have played a leadership role through launching the International Panel on AI (IPAI).

Prime Minister Trudeau and President Macron discussed the trade and economic relationship between Canada and France and welcomed the growth in trade, jobs and opportunities for business that is benefitting both countries.
