Prime Minister Justin Trudeau yesterday spoke with the Prime Minister of Australia, Scott Morrison, and congratulated him on his electoral victory in the May 18 Australian federal elections.

Recalling the tragic terrorist attack in Christchurch, New Zealand, the two leaders spoke of their determination to stop the nefarious use of social media and online platforms for violent extremism and hate. They welcomed the progress achieved with the Christchurch Call adopted in Paris on May 15, 2019, and committed to continue with further action.  

The prime ministers looked forward to meeting soon and reaffirmed the importance of continued collaboration between Canada and Australia given the two countries’ deep historic ties and shared values.

The two leaders also discussed climate change and relations with China.
