Prime Minister Trudeau meets with the Prime Minister Rutte of The Netherlands

Today, the Prime Minister, Justin Trudeau, met with Prime Minister Mark Rutte of the Netherlands following the NATO Leaders Meeting.

Prime Minister Rutte congratulated Prime Minister Trudeau on his success in the Canadian federal election. The two leaders spoke about their shared commitment to the strong and enduring bonds between Canada and the Netherlands, and the important role Canada is proud to have played in the liberation of the Netherlands 75 years ago. On NATO’s 70th anniversary, Prime Minister Trudeau and Prime Minister Rutte agreed on NATO’s immense contribution and fundamental role in defending trans-Atlantic security and the rules-based international order.

Prime Minister Trudeau and Prime Minister Rutte discussed the benefits the Canada-European Union (EU) Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement (CETA) has already had for businesses and consumers on both sides of the Atlantic, and the opportunities it presents for promoting economic growth and bilateral trade.

The Prime Ministers look forward to continue working together to advance common priorities and shared values, including respect for democracy, human rights, and international law.
