Today, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau spoke with the President of the European Council, Charles Michel.
The two leaders discussed the situation in Iraq. They emphasized the need for de-escalation and dialogue, and called on all parties to exercise restraint. They agreed on the importance of efforts to promote a united and stable Iraq, and the ongoing fight against Daesh.
Prime Minister Trudeau and President Michel also expressed their shared support for preservation of the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) and its crucial role in regional and global security.
The leaders agreed that Canada and the European Union will continue to work together along with other international partners to promote regional stability.
