Secretary-General Guterres offered his condolences for the loss of Canadian lives in the Ukraine International Airlines tragedy. The Prime Minister and the Secretary-General reaffirmed the need for a complete and thorough international investigation. They welcomed the involvement of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) in the investigation.
The Prime Minister and the Secretary-General reviewed recent developments in the Middle East and agreed on the importance of de-escalation of tensions in the region. They also discussed a range of global issues, including effective multilateralism and their shared priority of making meaningful progress on climate change action in the lead-up to the COP26 UN climate change conference in Glasgow, UK, later this year.
The Prime Minister and the Secretary-General reaffirmed the partnership between Canada and the United Nations and looked forward to working together to advance common objectives.
