Today, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau spoke with the Prime Minister of Pakistan, Imran Khan, to discuss the latest developments regarding the COVID-19 pandemic.

The two leaders discussed their respective efforts to fight the pandemic and protect the health, safety, and economic well-being of their citizens. Prime Minister Trudeau thanked Prime Minister Khan for Pakistan’s ongoing help to repatriate Canadians seeking to return home during this crisis.

Prime Minister Trudeau and Prime Minister Khan spoke about the importance of a coordinated global response to the COVID-19 crisis, and in particular support for the needs of vulnerable countries affected by the pandemic. In this regard they welcomed measures such as the debt relief agreed by the G20. 

The prime ministers agreed to continue cooperating closely and noted the importance of the strong people-to-people ties between the two countries.

COVID-19 is a rapidly evolving global challenge. The Government of Canada is working closely with local, provincial, territorial, and international partners to minimize its health, economic, and social impacts in Canada and around the world.
