Prime Minister Justin Trudeau meets with Prime Minister of Singapore Lee Hsien Loong

Today, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau met with the Prime Minister of Singapore, Lee Hsien Loong.

The two leaders discussed the strong and growing bilateral ties between Canada and Singapore and exchanged perspectives on shared priorities such as democracy and expanding bilateral trade and investment to create good middle-class jobs.

Prime Minister Trudeau thanked Prime Minister Lee for Singapore’s steadfast support for Canada at the Association of Southeast Asian Nations, particularly in relation to the upgrading of the Canada-ASEAN relationship to a Strategic Partnership earlier this week.

The two leaders also discussed their shared commitment to the rules based international order in response to rising geopolitical tensions and threats to global peace and stability. They reaffirmed their desire to continue working together to promote a free, open, and inclusive Indo-Pacific region.

The prime ministers also discussed Russia’s illegal and unjustified war against Ukraine, and its impacts on regional and global food security. Prime Minister Trudeau and Prime Minister Lee looked forward to seeing each other again at the upcoming G20 Summit in New Delhi, India.
