Today, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau met with the Premier of British Columbia, David Eby.
The two leaders discussed how all governments can continue working together to improve housing supply and affordability for Canadians. The Prime Minister pointed to the Government of Canada’s recent decision to remove the Goods and Services Tax and the Harmonized Sales Tax on the construction of new apartment buildings for renters. Prime Minister Trudeau praised Premier Eby’s government for its strong commitment to tackling housing issues, and they agreed to continue working together and with partners to ensure British Columbians can find safe and affordable homes.
The leaders discussed their governments’ efforts to drive clean economic growth in British Columbia. Prime Minister Trudeau and Premier Eby considered how investments in the clean economy and partnerships with Indigenous communities will open new economic opportunities in the province, including in the areas of critical minerals and hydrogen.
Prime Minister Trudeau and Premier Eby discussed public safety, including federal legislation to strengthen Canada’s bail regime, which was recently passed in the House of Commons. Prime Minister Trudeau also reiterated his condolences on the tragic death of the Ridge Meadows Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) officer in Coquitlam last week, and he wished a fast and full recovery to the RCMP officers who were injured in the shooting.
Prime Minister Trudeau and Premier Eby agreed to remain in close contact and to continue working together on shared priorities.
