Today, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau met with the Prime Minister of Australia, Anthony Albanese, on the margins of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Leaders’ Summit in San Francisco, United States of America.

The prime ministers discussed opportunities to advance bilateral and regional co-operation in the Asia-Pacific region, particularly as it relates to trade that benefits everyone. They also spoke about the importance of building stable, resilient, and responsible critical mineral supply chains.

In the wake of devastating wildfires in Canada and Australia, the two leaders underscored the need to continue to work together to fight climate change and address its impacts.

The prime ministers reiterated Israel’s right to defend itself in accordance with international law, including international humanitarian law. They expressed deep concern over the dire humanitarian situation in Gaza, and emphasized the need to protect civilians and the importance of ensuring unimpeded access to live-saving humanitarian aid for civilians.

The two leaders reaffirmed their support for Ukraine as it continues to defend itself against Russia’s illegal and unjustifiable war of aggression.

Prime Minister Trudeau and Prime Minister Albanese agreed to stay in close contact and to continue working together to advance shared priorities.
