Yesterday, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau spoke with the Governor of California, Gavin Newsom.
The Prime Minister offered his sincerest condolences regarding the fatalities and destruction in the Los Angeles area from the ongoing wildfires, and he offered Canada’s full support to assist California’s firefighting efforts.
The Prime Minister noted that his cabinet ministers were in touch with officials from the United States Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and are standing by for any requests for additional support. He noted that fire crews, aircraft, and equipment from Canada, including from British Columbia and Quebec, were some of the first on scene to help battle the fires.
The Prime Minister expressed his appreciation for the enduring friendship and close co-operation between Canada and California and noted that Canada and its friends in the United States are stronger and more resilient when they work together.
