Today, the Prime Minister, Mark Carney, met with the Prime Minister of Australia, Anthony Albanese, on the margins of the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM) in St. John’s, Antigua and Barbuda.
Prime Minister Carney and Prime Minister Albanese reaffirmed the deep and enduring partnership between Canada and Australia. They welcomed continued progress in strengthening bilateral relations since Prime Minister Carney’s visit to Australia in March 2026, including through cooperation in energy, critical minerals, security and defence, and artificial intelligence.
The prime ministers underscored the strong and growing economic partnership between their two countries, evidenced by nearly $8 billion in bilateral trade last year. Building on this momentum, they explored opportunities to strengthen trade, investment, and financial sector partnerships, as well as enhance regulatory cooperation to facilitate innovation and closer commercial ties.
Prime Minister Carney and Prime Minister Albanese agreed to remain in close contact.
