Prime Minister Justin Trudeau met today with President Maithripala  Sirisena of the Republic of Sri Lanka on the margins of the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting.

Prime Minister Trudeau welcomed President Sirisena's important recent steps towards improving human rights, devolution, accountability and reconciliation in Sri Lanka.

Both leaders highlighted the vibrant Sri Lankan community in Canada and discussed the potential for increasing commercial relations between the two countries, particularly in agriculture, education, high technology and infrastructure sectors.
