Prime Minister Trudeau met today with President Idriss Déby Itno of Chad on the margins of the G20 Leaders Summit in Hangzhou, China.

They discussed ways to strengthen ties between their countries. Given that President Déby Itno is attending the G20 Summit in his capacity as the current chair of the African Union, the Prime Minister also shared Canada's interest in increasing its engagement with Africa, including within the Unites Nations.

The two leaders also discussed the African Union's efforts in the area of women's rights, as well as domestic and regional security issues that are of concern to Chad.
