
Prime Minister Justin Trudeau met today with the President of Colombia, Juan Manuel Santos, during the President’s State Visit to Canada.
The leaders discussed ways to strengthen the Canada-Colombia relationship, including by promoting trade and investment, combating climate change, as well as increasing gender equality and the empowerment of women and girls. They also discussed consultations with indigenous peoples.
Prime Minister Trudeau and President Santos furthermore addressed enhancing cooperation in multilateral settings, including in the Pacific Alliance. They also exchanged views on regional security, including efforts to find a solution to the crisis in Venezuela.
Prime Minister Trudeau congratulated President Santos for his key role in advancing Colombia’s peace process and reaffirmed Canada’s ongoing support for its implementation.
