Today, Prime Minister Trudeau spoke by telephone with President Ouattara and offered his condolences on behalf of Canadians for the human loss and damage caused by recent torrential rains in the Ivorian capital, Abidjan. The two leaders discussed the importance of global collaboration and actions to fight the effects of climate change.

The Prime Minister congratulated President Ouattara on the success of the Jeux de la Francophonie held in Abidjan last year. The President expressed his admiration for Canadian athletes’ excellent performance.

The leaders discussed the role of the Organisation internationale de la Francophonie in Africa. The Prime Minister reiterated his support for a second term for Michaëlle Jean as Secretary General of the Organisation internationale de la Francophonie.
