The Honourable Robert Leurer was appointed in 2017 to His Majesty’s Court of King’s Bench for Saskatchewan, then known as the Court of Queen’s Bench, and was elevated in 2018 to the Court of Appeal for Saskatchewan.

Prior to his appointment to the Bench, Chief Justice Leurer was a partner at MacPherson Leslie & Tyerman LLP (now MLT Aikins) in Regina. Before that, he clerked at the Supreme Court of Canada. His practice focused on product liability and class actions. His work extended widely to commercial, insurance, personal injury, privacy, constitutional, and administrative law. He argued cases before the Supreme Court of Canada, the Federal Court, and courts throughout Western Canada. He was appointed Queen’s Counsel for Saskatchewan in 2003 and was named a Fellow of the American College of Trial Lawyers in 2011.

Chief Justice Leurer has been a leader in many professional, community, and business organizations. He served as President of the Canadian Bar Association, Saskatchewan Branch, and as Regional Chair of the Supreme Court Advocacy Institute. He is a director of the Canadian Institute for Advanced Legal Studies and a frequent lecturer at national and regional legal conferences.

Chief Justice Leurer obtained his law degree in 1984 from the University of Saskatchewan, where he was the Law Society of Saskatchewan Gold Medalist. He was admitted to the Bar of Saskatchewan in 1986.
