The Honourable Geneviève Cotnam was appointed to the Court of Appeal of Québec in 2018.
Prior to her appointment to the Court, Chief Justice Cotnam practised law at Flynn Rivard from 1990 to 2003, at Desjardins Ducharme Stein Monast from 2003 to 2007, and at Stein Monast from 2007 to 2016. Her practice focused on civil law, professional liability, and insurance law. In 2016, she was appointed to the Civil Division of the Court of Québec.
Chief Justice Cotnam earned her Bachelor of Laws degree from Université Laval in 1989 and was admitted to the Barreau du Québec in 1990. She recently completed a Master’s degree in Criminal Law at York University’s Osgoode Hall Law School. In 2012, she was awarded the distinction of Emeritus Lawyer by the Barreau du Québec.
