Today, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau spoke with the new Prime Minster of Greece, Kyriakos Mitsotakis.

Prime Minister Trudeau congratulated Prime Minister Mitsotakis on the results of Greece’s national elections on July 7, 2019, and expressed his determination to continue building on the deep relations between Canada and Greece. Prime Minister Trudeau praised the profound contribution the Greek community has made to Canada and the importance of people-to-people ties between the two countries.

The two Prime Ministers welcomed the increase in trade between Canada and Greece since the entry into provisional application of the Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement (CETA) in September 2017. They underlined their desire to foster increased investment, which will lead to job growth in both Canada and Greece.

The two leaders also discussed the importance of collaborating on a range of pressing international challenges, including supporting multilateral institutions and the rules-based international order.
