Prime Minister Abdul-Mahdi offered his condolences following the Ukraine International Airlines tragedy in Tehran. The two leaders discussed the situation in Iraq and the importance of continuing the fight against Daesh in order to safeguard peace and stability in Iraq and the wider region. They discussed the critical roles of the coalition and the NATO training mission in Iraq, with Prime Minister Abdul-Mahdi expressing his appreciation for Canada’s contribution.
The two leaders agreed on the importance of de-escalation and dialogue in order to reduce tensions in the region and looked forward to staying in touch.
