Today, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau spoke with the President of South Africa, Cyril Ramaphosa, to discuss recent developments in the COVID-19 pandemic.

Prime Minister Trudeau expressed solidarity with President Ramaphosa and all South Africans as they take the necessary measures to protect their health, safety, and livelihoods from the impacts of COVID-19. 

The two leaders exchanged information on national measures they have taken to prevent the spread of the virus and protect the health and safety of their citizens. Prime Minister Trudeau also described the major efforts by the Government of Canada to stabilize the economy and help Canadians affected by the impacts of this challenging period.

They also discussed the importance of international coordination and support to reinforce health, financial, and economic systems in Africa. 

COVID-19 is a rapidly evolving global challenge. The Government of Canada is working closely with local, provincial, territorial, and international partners to minimize its health, economic, and social impacts in Canada and around the world.
