New agreements to secure additional vaccine candidates for COVID-19

The Prime Minister, Justin Trudeau, today announced an agreement with AstraZeneca to procure up to 20 million doses of its COVID‑19 vaccine candidate. This agreement adds to those already reached with Sanofi and GlaxoSmithKline, Johnson & Johnson, Novavax, Pfizer, and Moderna, which were made following the recommendations of the COVID-19 Vaccine Task Force. With these agreements in place, the government has now secured access for Canadians to six leading vaccine candidates.

The Prime Minister, Justin Trudeau, today announced the following changes in the senior ranks of the Public Service:

Kristina Namiesniowski, currently President of the Public Health Agency of Canada, becomes Senior Official at the Privy Council Office, effective September 28, 2020.

Iain Stewart, currently President of the National Research Council of Canada, becomes President of the Public Health Agency of Canada, effective September 28, 2020.

Canada’s COVID-19 exposure notification app now available in New Brunswick

The Prime Minister, Justin Trudeau, and the Premier of New Brunswick, Blaine Higgs, today announced that people in New Brunswick can now receive one-time keys from their health authorities to use with COVID Alert, Canada’s COVID-19 exposure notification app. The app helps notify users if they may have been exposed to someone who has tested positive for COVID-19.

Prime Minister announces support for Black entrepreneurs and business owners

Every day, Black business owners and entrepreneurs make invaluable contributions to communities across the country, and their success is essential to Canada’s economic recovery and future prosperity.

The COVID-19 pandemic has highlighted and exacerbated existing systemic barriers faced by Black entrepreneurs and small and medium-sized business owners in Canada. While we have made progress in advancing equitable access to support and opportunities, much more needs to be done to better help Black business owners and entrepreneurs, and address anti-Black racism.

Canada’s COVID-19 exposure notification app now available in Newfoundland and Labrador

The Prime Minister, Justin Trudeau, and the Premier of Newfoundland and Labrador, Andrew Furey, today announced that people in Newfoundland and Labrador can now receive one-time keys from their health authorities to use with COVID Alert, Canada’s COVID-19 exposure notification app. The app, first fully implemented in Ontario in July, helps notify users if they may have been exposed to someone who has tested positive for COVID-19.
