Over the past few days, we’ve seen COVID-19 spread around the world at an even faster pace.

Good morning, everyone.

Yesterday, I shared with you that my wife Sophie was being tested for COVID-19, and that test did come back positive.

Sophie’s symptoms remain mild, but we are following medical advice and taking every precaution.

She will remain in isolation for the time being.

We are thinking about all the families across the country who have received the same diagnosis.

Over the past few weeks, we’ve seen COVID-19 spread around the globe.

I want to thank Ian McKay from Invest in Canada for hosting this event and of course, thank you all for joining us.

Our country has faced some significant challenges since the start of the year. First, the tragedy of Flight 752, which was shot down near Tehran. Second, the coronavirus epidemic and all the Canadians who have been affected. And, most recently, the rail crisis.

Thank you very much, Madam Chair. Thank you as well, Members of the committee. I’ll make a few introductory remarks and then I will be happy to answer your questions.

I would like to begin by recognizing that we are on the ancestral land of the Algonquin people. Mr. Speaker, people are troubled by what they’ve been witnessing this past week. Young, old, Indigenous, newcomers – they are asking themselves what is happening in this country.

Ladies and gentlemen, good afternoon. Thank you for the warm welcome. It’s a pleasure to be here in Munich for this important conference. I must say, your invitation comes at a key moment.

First of all, thank you for welcoming me to UCAD, a place steeped in history that has trained countless leaders who have left their mark on Senegal.

I would like to begin by acknowledging that we are gathered on the traditional territory of the Algonquin people. I am truly honoured to speak here today in support of Bill C-4, an Act to implement the Agreement between Canada, the United States of America and the United Mexican States.
