The two leaders discussed shared priorities related to housing, infrastructure, clean growth, and innovation, highlighting progress made since their meeting last fall. On housing, the Prime Minister highlighted recent Housing Accelerator Fund investments in British Columbia, totalling over $328 million, that will fast track close to 9,400 units in the province over the next three years. The Prime Minister also noted British Columbia’s leadership in the areas of affordable housing and Indigenous housing.
Prime Minister Trudeau and Premier Eby underlined how their governments are working together to drive clean economic growth in British Columbia, in partnership with Indigenous communities. The two leaders also highlighted their governments’ support for E-One Moli’s lithium-ion battery cell manufacturing facility in Maple Ridge, which will help bolster British Columbia’s role in Canada’s world-leading battery supply chain. The two leaders addressed the importance of innovation in driving economic prosperity, and they agreed to continue collaborating to support strategic initiatives that leverage technology and entrepreneurship.
The leaders discussed immigration, notably their shared objective to ensure sustainable growth and the integrity of the International Student Program. The Prime Minister reiterated the federal government’s commitment to working with British Columbia and other provinces and territories in a way that supports their own measures in this area.
The Prime Minister Trudeau and the Premier also discussed public safety, including organized crime and fentanyl distribution. They agreed that while considerable efforts are underway, there is more work to be done to prevent the distribution of unregulated drugs.
Prime Minister Trudeau and Premier Eby agreed to remain in close contact and to continue working together on shared priorities.
