Prime Minister Justin Trudeau spoke with Newfoundland and Labrador Premier Andrew Furey to discuss the COVID-19 situation. They spoke about the announcement made earlier today that people in Newfoundland and Labrador now have access to COVID Alert, Canada’s COVID-19 exposure notification app.
The Prime Minister and the Premier also reviewed the steps taken by the governments of Newfoundland and Labrador and Canada in recent months to protect the health and safety of Canadians and to support workers and businesses. This includes the recent announcement of the $2 billion Safe Return to Class Fund. This fund will provide up to $26.18 million to Newfoundland and Labrador to support its efforts for a safe return to school next week and to protect the health of students and staff.
Prime Minister Trudeau and Premier Furey also discussed other issues, notably restarting the economy, key industries, including the oil and gas sector, and clean energy and electrification projects.
The two leaders agreed to continue to work closely together on the response to COVID-19, and the ongoing supports needed for economic recovery.
