The Prime Minister, Justin Trudeau, spoke with the Premier of the State Council of the People's Republic of China, Li Keqiang.
The leaders discussed their respective commitments to combat climate change and the shared responsibility in addressing this global issue. They welcomed recent cooperation, including Canada’s participation at the Clean Energy Ministerial hosted by China in early June. Canada will host the 10th Clean Energy Ministerial and the fourth Mission Innovation Ministerial meeting in 2019 to provide an international platform to promote global clean energy innovation and uptake.
Prime Minister Trudeau and Premier Li highlighted the important commercial and cultural links between Canada and China. They underscored the considerable potential for further deepening those links and expanding trade.
Premier Li extended congratulations for Canada’s upcoming 150th anniversary. Both leaders recalled their announcement of 2018 as the Canada-China Year of Tourism and encouraged increasing tourism between the two countries.
