Prime Minister welcomes new members of the Prime Minister’s Youth Council

The Prime Minister, Justin Trudeau, today announced the next 11 members of the Prime Minister’s Youth Council. These young leaders bring new energy and ideas to inspire all Canadians. They will join the 15 existing members, bringing the Youth Council to a total of 26 members.

Chosen from over 16,000 applicants from across Canada, these young Canadians—aged 16 to 24 years—will advise the Prime Minister and the Government of Canada on policies and programs that are important to them and to all Canadians.

The Prime Minister of Canada announces Chief Government Whip

The Prime Minister, Justin Trudeau, today announced that Pablo Rodriguez, Member of Parliament for Honoré–Mercier, has agreed to serve as Chief Government Whip.

Mr. Rodriguez was the Member of Parliament for Honoré–Mercier from 2004 to 2011 and returned in 2015. He was named Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Infrastructure and Communities in December of that year.

A graduate in business administration, Mr. Rodriguez worked in the field of international development for nearly ten years for a Montréal based non-governmental organization.

The Prime Minister of Canada announces Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Foreign Affairs

The Prime Minister, Justin Trudeau, today announced the appointment of Andrew Leslie, Member of Parliament for Orléans, to the position of Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Foreign Affairs.

In this new position, Mr. Leslie will assume special responsibilities for the Canada-U.S. relationship and play a critical role in building ties with the new U.S. administration.

Prime Minister announces allocation of a new towing vessel to British Columbia

The Prime Minister, Justin Trudeau, today toured a tugboat in the Burrard Inlet and took a brief ride in English Bay.

He used the opportunity to announce that the second of the two emergency towing vessels promised in the Oceans Protection Plan would operate on Canada’s West Coast.

The vessels will help the Canadian Coast Guard tow large commercial ships – including tankers – that are in distress and that pose a hazard to safe navigation, the marine environment, public health and local economies.

The Prime Minister announces significant support for Africa and La Francophonie at the XVI Summit of La Francophonie

While attending the XVI Summit of La Francophonie in Madagascar, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau today announced that the Government of Canada will provide $112.8 million for international aid projects that will benefit several African countries and Haiti.

This funding will contribute to projects that aim to fight climate change, empower women, and protect their rights. It will also be used to stimulate economic growth, which will create job opportunities for young people and women, and to counter terrorism and prevent radicalization.
