Prime Minister Trudeau concludes visit to Liberia

The Prime Minister, Justin Trudeau, today concluded his first official visit to Liberia. The visit will help Canada meet several of its top foreign policy objectives: empowering women and girls, promoting human rights, re-engaging with Africa, and addressing the pressing challenges facing the continent.

In Monrovia, Prime Minister Trudeau met with Liberian President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf to discuss issues of mutual interest, including peace and security, gender equality, and economic growth which benefits all Liberians, particularly youth.

The Prime Minister, Justin Trudeau, today announced that he will visit Monrovia, Liberia on November 24 and will then travel to Antananarivo, Madagascar, to take part in the XVI Summit of La Francophonie on November 26 and 27, 2016.

The Prime Minister, Justin Trudeau, today concluded a productive first official visit to Cuba, where he reinforced Canada’s longstanding relationship with Cuba and identified a number of areas where the two countries could work even closer together.

Prime Minister announces Special Advisor on LGBTQ2 issues

The Prime Minister, Justin Trudeau, today announced that Randy Boissonnault, Member of Parliament for Edmonton Centre, has been named Special Advisor on LGBTQ2 issues.

Mr. Boissonnault’s principal role will be to advise the Prime Minister on the development and co-ordination of the Government of Canada’s LGBTQ2 agenda. This will include working with LGBTQ2 organizations from across the country to promote equality for the LGBTQ2 community, protect the rights of its members, and address discrimination against them – both historical and current.

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau to travel to Cuba, Argentina, and Peru

The Prime Minister, Justin Trudeau, today announced that he will pay official visits to Cuba and Argentina from November 15 to 18, and will travel to Peru from November 19 to 20 to participate in the 2016 Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Leaders’ meeting.

Canada enjoys strong, long-standing relations with Cuba and Argentina. During the official visits, the Prime Minister will meet with Cuban President Raúl Castro, Argentinian President Mauricio Macri, and a number of local business and cultural leaders.
