Prime Minister announces gift to mark the Royal Tour of The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge

The Prime Minister, Justin Trudeau, today announced the Government of Canada’s official gift to mark the Royal Tour of Their Royal Highnesses, The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge.

The official gift is a donation of $100,000, which will be divided equally between two worthy initiatives.

The first $50,000 contribution will go to Prince’s Charities Canada (PCC), and will be used to promote education in Canada’s Indigenous communities and help more young people reach their full potential. It will also be used to help preserve Indigenous languages in Canada.

Prime Minister Trudeau welcomes the start of the first meeting of the Prime Minister’s Youth Council

The Prime Minister, Justin Trudeau, today introduced the first 15 members of the Prime Minister’s Youth Council. These young leaders will bring their best ideas to bear on issues facing Canada and will plan further engagement with youth in their communities.

Chosen from applicants across Canada, these young Canadians – aged from 16 to 24 years – will be advising the Prime Minister and the Government of Canada on policies and programs that are important to them.

Prime Minister welcomes Their Royal Highnesses, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, to Canada

The Prime Minister, Justin Trudeau, today announced that he will participate in a number of events taking place during the Royal Tour to Canada of Their Royal Highnesses, The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge.

On Saturday, September 24, the Prime Minister and Mrs. Grégoire Trudeau will participate in the Official Welcoming to Canada and British Columbia ceremony at the Legislative Assembly of British Columbia. The Prime Minister will later have a private audience with The Duke and Duchess.

Prime Minister of Canada welcomes progress on National Holocaust Monument

The Prime Minister, Justin Trudeau, today participated in a site dedication ceremony for the National Holocaust Monument, which is being built at the corner of Wellington and Booth streets in Ottawa.

The Monument, which is scheduled to be unveiled in 2017, will honour the millions of Jews and other innocent victims who died in the Holocaust. It will also promote a better understanding of the historical events surrounding the Holocaust and how they affected Canada, and celebrate the tremendous contributions that Holocaust survivors have made to this country.

Prime Minister announces significant support following UN meeting on refugees and migrants

The Government of Canada is playing a leadership role on the world stage in refugee resettlement and international migration issues.

The Prime Minister, Justin Trudeau, today announced that the Government of Canada will increase humanitarian assistance this fiscal year by 10 percent. The Prime Minister also announced over $64.5 million in new multi-year funding to support people affected by humanitarian crises around the world, and $467 million in programming as part of Canada’s strategy to address the crises in Syria, Iraq, and the surrounding region.

Prime Minister hosts successful Global Fund Replenishment Conference to fight AIDS, Tuberculosis, and Malaria

Canada is once again taking a leadership role to make a positive difference for the world’s poorest and most vulnerable – in particular women and girls.

By uniting around a common vision of a better and healthier future, the international community can fight diseases more effectively, and tackle the associated issues – including poverty, lack of access to education, and social and political inequality – which disproportionately impact women, girls, and young people.

The Prime Minister announces a change in the senior ranks of the Public Service

The Prime Minister, Justin Trudeau, today announced the following change in the senior ranks of the Public Service: 

Anil Arora, currently Assistant Deputy Minister, Health Products and Food Branch, Health Canada, becomes Chief Statistician of Canada, effective September 19, 2016.

The Prime Minister took the opportunity to thank Wayne Smith, Chief Statistician of Canada, for his service to Canadians over the last 35 years.

Premier of the State Council of the People's Republic of China, Li Keqiang, to visit Canada

The Prime Minister, Justin Trudeau, today announced that the Premier of the State Council of the People's Republic of China, Li Keqiang, will travel to Ottawa and Montréal, Canada for an official visit from September 21 to 24, 2016.

While in Ottawa, Premier Li will meet with the Prime Minister and other senior officials to continue to deepen a stronger, more stable relationship between Canada and China.
