Canada to host Global Fund Replenishment Conference to fight AIDS, Tuberculosis, and Malaria

The Prime Minister, Justin Trudeau, today announced that Canada will host the Fifth Replenishment Conference of the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis, and Malaria in Montréal, Quebec on September 16, 2016.

The Global Fund initiative is a true expression of Canada’s core values – to care for each other, to support those in need, and to prioritize the health and wellness of our global community.

Prime Minister welcomes Twenty-Third Annual Report on the Public Service of Canada

The Prime Minister, Justin Trudeau, today welcomed the Twenty-Third Annual Report to the Prime Minister on the Public Service of Canada from Michael Wernick, the Clerk of the Privy Council, Secretary to the Cabinet, and Head of the Public Service. 

The report outlines the Clerk’s priorities and expectations of the Public Service for the coming year, and emphasizes the need to improve mental health and well-being in the workplace, and boost efforts to attract, retain, and develop talented public servants.

The Prime Minister announces changes in the senior ranks of the Public Service

The Prime Minister, Justin Trudeau, today announced the following changes in the senior ranks of the Public Service: 

Daniel Jean, currently Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, becomes National Security Advisor to the Prime Minister, effective May 16, 2016.

Ian Shugart, currently Deputy Minister of Employment and Social Development, becomes Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, effective May 16, 2016.

The Prime Minister announces a change in the senior ranks of the public service

The Prime Minister, Justin Trudeau, today announced the following change in the senior ranks of the public service: 

Diane Lafleur, currently Assistant Deputy Minister, Federal-Provincial Relations and Social Policy Branch, Finance Canada, becomes Associate Deputy Minister of Indigenous and Northern Affairs, effective May 9, 2016.

Prime Minister concludes his visit to New York for the Paris Agreement signing Ceremony

The Prime Minister, Justin Trudeau, today concluded his visit to New York where, on behalf of Canada, he officially signed the Paris Agreement on Climate Change.

The Government of Canada views climate change not only as a challenge, but as an opportunity. It is a chance to build a clean growth economy that will help to fight climate change, while also creating well-paying jobs for middle class Canadians.

Prime Minister to travel to New York to sign the Paris Agreement on Climate Change

The Prime Minister, Justin Trudeau, today announced that he will travel to New York City from April 20 to 22, 2016,  to sign the Paris Agreement on climate change.

Canada has committed to play a positive and constructive role in the world, and to make meaningful contributions to important global challenges such as climate change.

Prime Minister announces significant investment for Perimeter Institute

The Prime Minister, Justin Trudeau, today announced that the Government of Canada will invest $50 million, over five years, in Waterloo’s Perimeter Institute so that it can continue its world-leading research in theoretical physics.

In Budget 2016, the Government defines a new vision for Canada’s economy: to build Canada as a centre of global innovation. Canada will be propelled by its globally competitive companies—like the Perimeter Institute—that support entrepreneurs and seize global market opportunities to grow the economy.

The Prime Minister of Canada announces Komagata Maru apology

The Prime Minister, Justin Trudeau, today announced that on May 18, 2016, he will make a formal apology in the House of Commons for the Komagata Maru incident.

This year will mark the 102nd anniversary of the Komagata Maru incident, where 376 passengers of mostly Sikh descent arrived in Vancouver and were refused entry into Canada due to the discriminatory laws of the time.

The Prime Minister made the announcement at Vaisakhi on the Hill concluding a three day religious ceremony, where Sikh scriptures were read continuously to commemorate Vaisakhi.

The Prime Minister of Canada concludes his visit to Washington and to the 2016 Nuclear Security Summit

The Prime Minister, Justin Trudeau, today concluded his visit to Washington, D.C., where he spoke before the U.S. Chamber of Commerce and attended the 2016 Nuclear Security Summit (NSS).

In his address to the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, the Prime Minister shared Canada’s plan to strengthen the middle class and those working hard to join it. He also highlighted the government’s recent tax cuts that put more money in the pockets of middle class families by raising taxes on the wealthiest one per cent of Canadians.
