Prime Minister supports climate action initiatives at Major Economies Forum

The Prime Minister, Justin Trudeau, today participated in the Major Economies Forum (MEF) on Energy and Climate, chaired by the U.S., to advance collective action on climate change. During the meeting, Canada endorsed new initiatives to cut pollution, while creating jobs and growing the economy, and called on major economies to strengthen or adopt pollution pricing.

Prime Minister to participate in Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting, G7 Summit, NATO Summit, and Spanish bilateral visit

The Prime Minister, Justin Trudeau, today announced he will participate in the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM) in Kigali, Rwanda, the G7 Summit at Schloss Elmau, Germany, and the NATO Summit in Madrid, Spain. He will also participate in an official bilateral visit hosted by the Prime Minister of Spain, Pedro Sánchez.

The Prime Minister announces changes in the senior ranks of the Public Service

The Prime Minister, Justin Trudeau, today announced the following changes in the senior ranks of the Public Service:

Catherine Blewett, currently Chief Strategic Engagement Officer, Ocean Frontier Institute, becomes Deputy Minister of Economic Development within the Innovation, Science and Economic Development portfolio, effective June 20, 2022.

Prime Minister announces nomination of Philippe Dufresne as Privacy Commissioner of Canada

Mr. Dufresne is a leading legal expert on human rights, administrative, and constitutional law. A member of the Bars of Quebec, Ontario, and Massachusetts, he has successfully represented the Canadian Human Rights Commission as Senior General Counsel before all levels of Canadian Courts, including the Supreme Court of Canada, in some of the key human rights and constitutional cases of the last two decades.

Prime Minister concludes successful visit of President of Chile Gabriel Boric

During the meeting, Prime Minister Trudeau and President Boric re-affirmed their commitment to work together as progressive leaders on issues that matter to Canadians and Chileans alike, including promoting democracy and safeguarding human rights, generating economic growth that creates good jobs and benefits everyone, protecting the environment, and furthering meaningful engagement with Indigenous Peoples.

Major historical claim settlement with Siksika Nation

This settlement aims to right past wrongs dating back over a century when the Government of Canada broke its Blackfoot Treaty (Treaty 7) promise and wrongfully took almost half of Siksika Nation’s reserve land, including some of the most productive agricultural and mineral-rich lands, to sell to settlers. The settlement agreement provides financial compensation to Siksika Nation to resolve several outstanding land claims and their related litigation.
