The Prime Minister, Justin Trudeau, today announced the appointment of Janice Charette as Clerk of the Privy Council and Secretary to the Cabinet, effective May 28, 2022. Ms. Charette has been serving as Interim Clerk of the Privy Council and Secretary to the Cabinet since March 9, 2021, and prior to this as High Commissioner for Canada in the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland.

Prime Minister announces members of the Independent Advisory Board to help select the next Supreme Court Justice

The Prime Minister, Justin Trudeau, today announced the members of the Independent Advisory Board for Supreme Court of Canada Judicial Appointments. The members of the Independent Advisory Board will identify candidates to fill the upcoming Supreme Court of Canada vacancy, which will be created by the retirement of the Honourable Michael J. Moldaver in September.

Prime Minister meets with Prime Minister of Latvia Krišjānis Kariņš

The prime ministers discussed ways to further coordinate additional military support to Ukraine as the country continues to fight Russia’s unprovoked and unjustifiable aggression. The leaders stressed the importance of coordination among members of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) and discussed ways to further strengthen NATO’s deterrence and defence measures in Eastern Europe, particularly in the Baltic region. The prime ministers also expressed their shared support for Finland joining the NATO Alliance.
