Prime Minister to hold year’s first Cabinet meeting in New Brunswick

The Prime Minister, Justin Trudeau, today announced that he will hold the year’s first Cabinet meeting in St. Andrews by-the-Sea, New Brunswick. The meeting will take place over three days, from January 17 to 19, 2016. 

During the meeting, Cabinet will review all that has been accomplished since November 2015 and discuss further plans to create jobs, strengthen the middle class, and grow an economy that works for all Canadians.

Prime Minister of Canada announces new leadership role for MP McGuinty

The Prime Minister, Justin Trudeau, today announced that David McGuinty, Member of Parliament for Ottawa South, will be taking a leadership role in the proposed statutory committee of Parliamentarians that will be responsible for reviewing security-related issues. A proposal to fulfill this mandate letter commitment will be brought forward in the coming months. The committee will be instrumental in helping the government meet its stated goal of strengthening national security oversight.

The Prime Minister announces a change in the senior ranks of the Public Service

The Prime Minister, Justin Trudeau, today announced the following change in the senior ranks of the Public Service:

Matthew Mendelsohn, currently Director, Mowat Centre for Policy Innovation and Associate Professor, School of Public Policy and Governance, University of Toronto, becomes Deputy Secretary to the Cabinet (Results and Delivery), Privy Council Office, effective January 11, 2016.

Prime Minister meets for the first time with President François Hollande

Introduction

The Prime Minister, Justin Trudeau, today had his first bilateral meeting with President François Hollande in Paris.

During the meeting, the Prime Minister expressed his condolences and reiterated Canada’s solidarity with the people of France in the wake of the recent terrorist attacks. He restated the Government of Canada’s continuing commitment to coalition efforts to counter the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria and to making strong contributions to the fight against terrorism.

Prime Minister announces funding to increase opportunities for youth in Africa

The Prime Minister, Justin Trudeau, announced today that Canada is contributing $15.3 million over four years (2015-2019) to improve the lives and futures of young people in Africa. This investment will help offer the training needed to find and keep good jobs, with a focus on reducing poverty and encouraging economic prosperity. The Prime Minister made the announcement while in Valletta, Malta, for the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting.
