Prime Minister announces changes to the Ministry

Marc Garneau, currently Minister of Transport, becomes Minister of Foreign Affairs. From his work as an astronaut to his time within government, Minister Garneau has always been a strong voice for Canada around the world. As Minister of Transport, Mr. Garneau made progress on a number of important issues that matter to Canadians, including the creation and advancement of the Ocean’s Protection Plan and Canada’s efforts on the Safer Skies Initiative to improve aviation security over conflict zones. Minister Garneau will bring experience acquired during his close work with international partners on the investigation into the Ukraine International Airlines Flight 752 tragedy and as chair of the Cabinet Committee on Canada-United States Relations to his new portfolio, and will continue to be a leader on the world stage.  

Prime Minister announces the upcoming appointment of the new Chief of the Defence Staff

Vice-Admiral McDonald became Commander of the Royal Canadian Navy in June 2019. Before his appointment, he commanded HMCS Halifax, the Fifth Maritime Operations Group, and Joint Task Force Pacific. Through these and other naval roles, he circumnavigated the globe, led sea-based humanitarian and disaster relief operations, and commanded a multi-national task group in the High Arctic.

Prime Minister announces appointment of new Associate Chief Justice of the Superior Court of Justice of Ontario

The Prime Minister, Justin Trudeau, today announced the appointment of the Honourable Faye E. McWatt, a judge of the Superior Court of Justice of Ontario, as the new Associate Chief Justice of the Superior Court of Justice of Ontario.

Associate Chief Justice McWatt replaces the Honourable Frank N. Marrocco, who retired on November 10, 2020, after 15 years of distinguished service as a judge.

The Prime Minister announces changes in the senior ranks of the Public Service

The Prime Minister, Justin Trudeau, today announced the following changes in the senior ranks of the Public Service:

Michael Sabia, currently Director, Munk School of Global Affairs and Public Policy at the University of Toronto, and Chair of the Board of Directors, Canada Infrastructure Bank, becomes Deputy Minister of Finance, effective December 14, 2020.

Paul Rochon, currently Deputy Minister of Finance, becomes Senior Official at the Privy Council Office, effective December 14, 2020.

Canada’s COVID-19 exposure notification app now available in the Northwest Territories

The Prime Minister, Justin Trudeau, and the Premier of the Northwest Territories, Caroline Cochrane, today announced that people in the Northwest Territories can now receive one-time keys from their health authority to use with COVID Alert, Canada’s COVID-19 exposure notification app. The app helps notify users if they may have been exposed to someone who has tested positive for COVID-19.
